What goes in a seed pitch deck

Y Combinator's seed deck template, by Aaron Harris. One slide per section where you can, never more than three. The template, slide by slide · Fundraising toolbox

  1. 1Title. Your company name and one line on what you do.
  2. 2Problem. State it clearly, with how it affects real people or businesses.
  3. 3Solution. What you do, in as few words as possible, and the concrete benefits.
  4. 4Traction. If you have it. Clear, meaningful numbers, with context.
  5. 5Insight. What makes you special and why this works.
  6. 6Business model. How you make money. You won't know every detail, but lay out what you do know.
  7. 7Market. How big this can get, and how much money it can make.
  8. 8Team. Why your founders are suited to this problem. Founders, not advisors.
  9. 9The ask. How much you're raising, what it gets you, and where you'll be in a year.

Questions about pitch decks

What is a pitch deck?
A short presentation, usually 10 to 15 slides, that a founder sends or shows to investors to raise money. It explains the problem, the product, the proof that it's working, why it can get big, the team and how much the company is raising.
How many slides should a pitch deck have?
About 10 to 15 for a seed deck. Y Combinator's template has 9 sections and says each should be one slide where possible, and never more than three. Airbnb's 2008 deck had 14 slides and Coinbase's 2012 seed deck had 11.
What slides should a seed pitch deck have?
Following Y Combinator's seed deck template, in this order: title, problem, solution, traction, insight, business model, market, team, the ask.
Where can I download famous pitch decks for free?
Here. Every deck in this library with a public PDF can be downloaded free from its page, credited to the source it was first shared by.
Are these the real decks the companies used?
The decks in the first section are the ones the companies used to raise money, as shared by founders, press or court records. The second section has other famous decks, like Snapchat's deck for advertisers, and each page says exactly what the deck is.
